CREATE THE ACCELERATION

I remember a television commercial some time ago about lubricating oil’s product.  More or less it said that the product would increase the acceleration of the machine.  On oxford English dictionary, acceleration means to move faster.

I have one sparring discussion partner whose often giving me a great advise or a good topic to discuss with.  We were use to be a part time teacher once on college, there is a formula on science that involve acceleration:

V = Vo + a.t

V         =          Velocity

Vo       =          Starting Velocity

A         =          Acceleration

T          =          Time

Based on that formula, we can assume that velocity is the result of substraction between starting velocity (Vo) and multiplication on “A” with time.  As we can see, the most influencing actor on getting a high velocity is “A” factor.  Vo factor is not giving too much contribution since it stands alone and have no extra point to be multiplied with.

The time might also considered as an important factor, but not really crucial because time is a constant  matter since it does have a certain amount like 60 second for a minutes, 60 minutes for an hour, 24 hours a day, 12 months a year, etc.  So the most important factor to gain the best result is “A” factor.  The higher the “A”, the faster the velocity would be.

How this scientific formula would affect our life?

As me and my friend discuss further, in order to reach to a destination, we can use 2 ways:

1. Routing theory
2. Acceleration

Routing

Imagined that we are traveling by a public transportation such as bus, surely it is going to a final destination which is bus terminal.  On the way there, the bus will stop on each halte or bus stop for several times.  We are the passenger, and we have no power to intervence the speed of the bus.  All we have to do is just sit down and being calm, enjoying the view on the street, until we got to the destination we expect.  Eventually we will got there safe and sound, but it might take some time.

Acceleration

On the same journey, we can get to a destination faster, by the affect of  “A” factor on gaining the grade of velocity we want.  By driving our own vehicle, we can add our velocity as we increase the acceleration.  In this way, time factor would not determine so much, because we have got the right or a certain multiplication factor.  In other word, we can get to the destination faster as we control the speed on the travel our self.

Based on the analogy, as the way we life or the way we work, the way we do something, the big question is what is our main priority.  In my own opinion there is nothing wrong with routing or acceleration theory based on the necessity.

For some case, we choose routing theory for doing a certain things, might be our work, we follow everything as it have scheduled or programmed, enjoy the condition.  Eventually we will get to the destination, do the work properly, being a good employee, and responsible to what we have done.  In this theory, time would be such important matter, since the acceleration is not needed so much, time is having an important role and the quality or the journey is depending on time.

But for those other who want to travel faster, there is no other way than finding and exploring your own acceleration factor.  It doesn’t depend on time, as I have said before, the bigger the “A” the higher the velocity would be.  If lubricating oil is important for accelerating the machine, our ability might be lubricating oil for our self.  What is our ability and superiority, explore it.  Education, training, self improvement, and high motivation might be a good way.  Give the best we can, do more, give more.  Not the better, not the good, not the great, but the excellent as we can get, as we can give, as we can be.

On the bigger scale, which is the place we are currently working, as I know BNI is almost 60 years since it was established on 1946.  60 is the T factor.

What have we reached within 60 years?  Are we using a routing theory in the journey of serving our customer and our country, or are we accelerating to go faster than our competitor?.  60 is a long way to go, our predecessor have built the company from the beginning, and step by step have made BNI as one of the largest bank in Indonesia and stand still until now, even facing many obstacle on economic or other bad condition.  For me, it is excellent.

Further more, as the new program “road to 60” begin, I personally believed that it is the acceleration we have.  It is a good point that we have two influencing factor combined, acceleration and time.  So, as I describe the formula once again:

V = Vo + a.t.  In this case:

V         =          Velocity, or the target we want to reach.

Vo       =          1946, the time it begin to established

A         =          Acceleration in boosting up the corporate image, with new   brand, and new   vision to serve and being the pride of this nation.

T          =          Road to 60

And it wouldn’t stop here, it is only a new beginning
